Recent years have seen an alarming increase in gang-related activities involving Somali youth. Public spaces — from schools and graduation parties to wedding venues and community centers — have increasingly become scenes of violence and fear. These acts not only endanger lives but also jeopardize the future of young people and undermine trust in key social institutions. Without proactive, coordinated responses, the normalization of this violence threatens long-term harm to our families, schools, and communities.
The Bayan Research Center remains committed to leading these vital conversations and transforming them into action. We recognize that only through unity, cultural insight, and intergenerational dialogue can we overcome the challenges facing Somali youth today.
tuned for follow-up meetings, policy briefs, and youth-centered programs launching this summer.
