Opioid overdose has become a major problem for Somali youth in Minnesota and is a leading cause of death. According to the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), "In 2017, over 400 Minnesotans died of an opioid-involved death, and prescription opioids remain the leading cause of opioid-involved death." There have been cases that could have been prevented if the community and parents were more aware, prepared, and able to respond immediately. Bayan Research Center is conducting a survey about Parents of East African adolescents and youth in MN, and we strongly believe that research and studies about opioid overdose crisis issues in the East African community are necessary, as this community has often been overlooked by traditional researchers. Please take your time to complete the survey and answer each question to the best of your ability. Your responses are valuable to us, and we appreciate you taking the time to participate. This survey is completely anonymous and confidential. All your responses will be kept strictly confidential and will only be used for research purposes.
